This a blog of a surface designer and his works. None of this is inspired from anothers work but of ideas that pop into my head. The emphasis i place on design is that we should clean up our surroundings with design, by means of not destroying to create more but rather to re-use the surrounding mess until most of the p lanet is clean, then we can turn to ecological living which is to never alter nature.

WATCH OUT FOR THE SCHEMERS WHEN BUYING
When buying yarn read your label closely and google what the yarn is if you want a certain aesthetic or you just like natural fibers
There is schemers out there, schemers that state its wool and the name usually is a lie such as elle's classic wool product but in small text..aran a mix between wool and acrylic or the yarn known as courtelle this is where google is useful because many of us dont hear courtelle and the label in fine text yet again says "manufactured by sparotex international using imported acrylic raw materials" this is just a hint that its acrylic. Thanks google yet again for hosting sites that help clear the air in terms of information.

Thèse are a few of things i dealt with today
- Got free yarn and a pair of 4mm needles from a family donater (gran).
- Finished the back of the jersey and the contemplaited whether it should become "hoody" which it probably will become.
- Dealt with one of the most annoying yarns ever then played around with it by adding complementary colours.
The weekend
A few days of people out of control more than they expected. We see it coming but surrender to the lust completely i know i have so have you... The garment known as DIS-FUNCTIINAL JESUS REJECT is almost however my reused yarn is almost up. This means i shall have to find reject knitted items

REALITY
I express reality everyday in words in works of art no matter what im telling you my life no matter what..wait thats a lie unless i say I for I is you and you is me for use of sacrifice
HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH
There is a place, a place which i walk through in my mind. A walking thought produced by my actions and in those moments of action i involved in with heaven. The heaven in my mind is the place of calm comfort, the heaven on Earth is the place where i project my actions based on my inner most calculations.. Become the concious and become part of heaven.. follow your mind, take the experiment and add the thoughts up, arrive at the conclusion. Surrender to your mind for the easiest road is the hardest one to climb up from.. There is a place and when we die we go to it, but we're already here and have been hear a infinitive times before, just like tomorrow it comes today.
THE LOVE WE MAKE IS EQUALLY TO THE LOVE WE TAKE
Could this be true, do our actions influence our reactions and in between lie thoughts. To silence ourselves would be to walk through the possible actions, to see the incorrection and understand it before completing the action. Has fast pace living disrupted our thoughts but then again face pace living has never left each generation has experienced life through innovation. So how are we any different, the story hasnt changed only the forms of the creations. A world expressing the reality trying to prove something rather than understand it before acting. Mother nature is in the air and she she is a system, a story that we wish to skip through to only viewing the pages filled with images. The love you take is equal to the you make, communism is sharing so share a little bit of love.
COME WHAT MAY
THIS IS A PROJECT THAT HAS SPUN OFF FROM THE WHO AM i AND WHERE DO i COME FROM WHERE THE GARMENT IS MADE FROM VARIOUS YARNS THAT HAVE BEEN THROWN AWAY, DONATED OR THE MESSY YARN N THE FLOORS. i TOOK THESE SORT THREADS AND TIED THEM INTO ONE UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DOCUMENT THIS PROCESS BUT CAN SHOW YOU ALL WHERE i'm AT WITH IT.
THE CONCEPT:
come what may is a series of jerseys which hold ideas where the first as about who am i and where do i come from based on the story of a life and how the story manufactures the me's that we are. The next garment is the raglan pattern jersey named DIS-FUNCTIONAL JESUS REJECT. The jersey holds the idea or standard that the machine aesthetic is easy and is seen as perfect whilst what we do with our hands is imperfect due to human error and time consuming. The concept draws its roots here where the human error is seen as beauty and how the machine aesthetic has also claimed a large piece of our Jesus also known as Earth due to mass-consumption and mass-waste. The jersey uses dis-functional ways of knitting where the ribs are thin and have moss stitch in odd areas. The general surfaces are quite textural due to tied bits now in the eyes of machinery and mass production this is a flaw but what does Earth say about the mass-waste is that a flaw?

A NEW PROJECT HAS EMERGED FROM OTHERS SCRAPS
Currently i have been picking up others scraps of yarn, my own previously used yarns and throw away yarns (FULL YARNS THAT WERE GIVEN TO ME) then making garments out of them.. the project is called come what may. The first garment is currently under construction.
i believe in re-using all that can possibly be re-used this garment may take time again as i am going to creating a yarn sliced and tied of various colours. I shall provide a sneak peak to whats happening after i have accumulated the images and yarns.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN KNITTING NEEDLES OUT BROOMSTICKS
Now the needle will be about 23mm diameter and is free.
Do use a wooden broomstick not a plastic one because the shaping of the tip will not happen. Your also gonna need to buy p1600 and p1200 sandpaper (supper fine). Find acrylic yarn and wood glue. Light a candle light because you shouldnt use lights.

- Get a wooden broomstick that you have not bought so go find it because if you dont that means you're lazy and if you did buy one...shame on you.
- Take broomstick and carve a tip, buffer with a rough spinning surface.
- Once you have done that use the p1200 to smoothen out the surface as we dont want fibres to get caught on the sticks. Use the p1600 to transform the surface into a slick one.
- Wrap acrylic yarn around the one end of each needle. If you are wondering which side then look at the needles pointed tip and say with me now not this side. So the opposing end of the needles tip .
- Apply wood glue to the acrylic after it has been wrapped around the yarn. Apply 5 layers of yarn and wood glue

WHAT i STAND FOR
i stand for nature(using a computer bit contradictory but its a university project so chill), i am Jesus, i am a son of the sun. i am here as a sacrifice for now until we all stop what we are doing in order for us to see the heaven on Earth and within ourselves. i do not wosh for fame or to be remembered for when this place burns who will remember then. i shall sacrifice myself for your filth take the material you used and change its form so previous Earth did not go to waste. You can make a car but you can make Earth only manipulate it
THE COLOUR WHICH EXPERIENCES BOTH DARK AND LIGHT
i stand here a neutral, merely a colour toned by the surrounding
FORMED BY DARKNESS
The darkness a force of nature an occurance which we cannot stop. It formed the cornered cuboidal room which we are in right now, the shadow which falls behind us while we see the light ahead. The darkness a force of unconscious decisions due to nature testing you on choices. What would you do what do you need and what do you wamt. i choose the difference for i am the colour experiencing both as a story. The darkness wants more and can take me in my moments of surrender. Funny thing about darkness is that it follows you.
THEORY OF 3
The theory of three is an idea that each of us have experience three objectives which influence our subjectives. The Earth, Sun and moon; this is just one the others are all around you such as Mom, Dad and you. The one of most importance is Darkness, colour and light. These 3 objectives (darkness, colour and light) hold the story of your subjective experience where the darnkess of the past impacts the colour of the present and the actions of the present to darkness influences the light of the future.
If you are asking yourself now what about your brothers or sisters, well welcome to the theory of 4 walk outside in the night and observe how the stars lights attempt to connect each other in the vast darkness.
These objectives shape our story and we experience and express the situation subjectively due to our past. The colour in between existance experience darkness and light. The Earth spinning in circles watched by the Sun and the Moon. A child watched by the mother and father.

HOW TO READ MY GARMENT CONCEPTUALLY
- THE BLACK ACRYLIC YARN STANDS FOR THE UNCONCIOUSNESS OF THE DREAM.
- THE BLUE AND RED ACRYLIC REUSED YARN STANDS FOR THE JOURNEY OF LESSONS.
- THE PLASTIC BAG AND WOOL YARN STANDS FOR THE SACRIFICE OF MYSELF TO SAVE NATURE
- COTTON AND WOOL YARN STANDS FOR TJE EMBODIMENT OF CHANGE IN MY CHOICES
THE CONCEPT OF THE GARMENT
FIRST i EXPERIENCED DARKNESS. AN IMPURE UNCONCIOUSNESS WHICH SHAPED THE DREAM i CALLED LIFE. THE DARKNESS BROUGHT FORMED THE DREAD OF THE FEARFUL DREAM. OUT OF FEAR CAME UNAWARE CHOICES. THE DARKNESS SOON PAST AN THERE WAS NOW A GLIMPSE OF WARM LIGHT. THE ILLUMINATED DREAM BROUGHT ABOUT THE JOURNEY BETWEEN THE VISUAL WORLD. THE CONCIOUSNESS OF MY MIND DEVELOPED, SOON ENOUGH THE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE THOUGHTS EDUCATED ME. i CHOSE TO BE THE DIFFERENCE, TO STAND AS CHANGE AND TO SACRIFICE MYSELF FOR YOU. SOON i EMBODIED MY MESSAGE IN EVERYYHING I HAVE DONE... i ask you my dear sibling where are you now
PROCESS 4: MAKING THE RAGLAN GARMENT
- PLOT OUT WHERE YOU GOING TO PLACE CERTAIN YARN.
- KNIT TEST SUBJECTS TO UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU WILL NEED TO INCREASE OR DECREASE IN NEEDLES SIZE (ALSO PERSONAL CHOICE CAN CHANGE THE GARMENT OR THE SURFACE AREA SO YOU MAY CHOOSE HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO DEVELOP THE GARMENT)]
- i KNITTED THE SLEEVES FIRST WITH 35 CAST ON STITCHES, 12 ROWS OF COTTON RIBS FOR CUFFS. THE NUMBER OF ROWS VARIED AS THE YARN CHANGE 6 TIMES. i ENDED OFF ON 6 CAST OFF STITCHES. (leave cast of strand quite long we are going to use that to stitch up the garment)
- i THEN KNITTED THE BACK WHICH CONSISTED OF 45 STITCHES, 12 ROWS OF RIBBING. i PLACED THE KNITTING EACH TIME ON MY CUT OUT OF A RAGLAN PATTERN TO JUDGE HOW FAR OFF FROM THE ARMPITS. ONCE I REACHED ARMPIT i CASTED OFF 5 STITCHES EACH SIDE. i KNITTED A ROW THEN SLOWLY BEGAN TO DECREASE EACH SIDE.I CASTED OFF ON 9 STITCHES ONCE I REACHED THE NECK.(leave cast of strand quite long we are going to use that to stitch up the garment)
- i THEN KNITTED THE FRONT WHICH CONSISTED OF 51 STITCHES, 12 ROWS OF RIBBING. i PLACED THE KNITTING EACH TIME ON MY CUT OUT OF A RAGLAN PATTERN TO JUDGE HOW FAR OFF FROM THE ARMPITS. ONCE I REACHED ARMPIT i CASTED OFF 5 STITCHES EACH SIDE. i KNITTED A ROW THEN SLOWLY BEGAN TO DECREASE EACH SIDE.I CASTED OFF ON 15 STITCHES ONCE I REACHED THE NECK.(leave cast of strand quite long we are going to use that to stitch up the garment)
- i THEN STITCHED UP THE GARMENT USING THE CAST OFF STRAND
- I THEN KNITTED AN EXTERNAL NECK KNOWN AS THE MOBIUS STRIP (leave cast of strand quite long we are going to use that to stitch the strip onto the garment).
THE PROCESS 3: UNDERSTANDING THE RAGLAN
ABOVE: variations of raglan sleeve designs
ABOVE: inset sleeve design
STEPS WHICH I COVERED:
- FIRST WAS TO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAGLAN AND INSET SLEEVES......A RAGLAN IS GEOMETRICAL WHICH MEANS IT DOES NOT CONSIST OF FLOWING LINES WHICH WE CAN SEE IN THE INSET. THE RAGLAN SLEEVE FORMS THE SHOULDER WHILST INSET IS THAT THE SLEEVE DOES NOT RUN INTO THE SHOULDER.
- SECOND STEP WAS TO PHYSICALLY UNDERSTAND THE INSET AND RAGLAN WHILST OBTAINING MY MEASUREMENTS. CUT A VISUAL PATTERNS FROM THE NEWSPRINT.
- KNIT A TEST SUBJECT TO UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH KNITS WILL BE NEEDED TO FILL THE SPACE
THE PROCESS 2 CREATING THE YARNS
- (plastic bag yarn)....CUT THE PLASTIC BAGS INTO STRIPS. TIE THE ENDS OF THE STRIPS TOGETHER. THIS FORMS ONE LONG STRAND. SPIN A BIT OF THE YARN AROUND YOUR FINGER. TAKE THAT BIT OFF. NOW SPIN THE YARN AROUND THE ACCUMULATED BALL. (this makes one ball of yarn but it is not ready yet). THE SECOND STEP IS TIE TO TIE THE END OF WOOL YARN TO ONE SIDE OF A FAN (tie to one blade of the fan). TIE THE PLASTIC YARN TO THE OPPOSING BLADE. PUT FAN ON 2ND SPEED AND SLOW WALK BACK. THIS FORMS A LONG STRAND.THIS STRAND WILL HOLD TENSION. TO DECREASE TENSION TIE ONE END TO A POLE AND WALK AS FAR BACK AS POSSIBLE.THIS SHALL FORM A BALANCED HOMEMADE YARN WHICH SHALL BE ROLLED UP INTO A YARN.
- (teddy bear yarn or knitted garment yarn).....FIND THE CAST OFF SIDES. FIND WHAT BINDS THE SIDES TOGETHER. UNWEAVE THE STRAND. NOW PILL THAT STRAND CONTINUOUSLY.THIS FORMS ONE LONG STRAND. SPIN A BIT OF THE YARN AROUND YOUR FINGER. TAKE THAT BIT OFF. NOW SPIN THE YARN AROUND THE ACCUMULATED BALL. (this makes one ball of yarn but it is not ready yet)...... now for the other method....CUT UP THE BEAR.TIE STRANDS TOGETHER.THIS FORMS ONE LONG STRAND. SPIN A BIT OF THE YARN AROUND YOUR FINGER. TAKE THAT BIT OFF. NOW SPIN THE YARN AROUND THE ACCUMULATED BALL.
- (cotton fabric yarn) MAKE A SMALL CUT. TEAR DOWN BUT BEFORE YOU GET TO THE END STOP ABOUT 2CM AWAY FORM EDGE.MAKE ANOTHER SMALL CUT 2CM AWAY FROM PREVIOUS CUT ON THE OPPOSING SIDE OF THE PREVIOUS CUT. REPEAT THIS ACTION UNTIL THE FABRIC FORMS ONE LONG STRAND. SPIN A BIT OF THE YARN AROUND YOUR FINGER. TAKE THAT BIT OFF. NOW SPIN THE YARN AROUND THE ACCUMULATED BALL.

THE PROCESS
BRAINSTORM YOUR FAMILY STORY
- MOTHER stuck to the rules
- FATHER rebelled
- TOGETHER they were a ticking time bomb
- BROTHER became distant as did i
- WE became dis-functional and an a lie to others
- WE experienced great darkness as we had no home after the split
- WE moved from friend to friend and landed at a distant family member
- WE moved out of the darkness and into our own new home
- WE struggled for 9 years and soon got on our feet again
BRAINSTORMING SELF IDENTITY:
Who am i?:
- i'm a human nothing more nothing less as i do not wish to see myself as an image but rather no different than you.
- i have experienced a story in chronological order.
- i was once asleep or better known as unconscious to my surroundings
- i experienced a journey of positives and negatives which developed my lessons
- i attempted to embodied both positivity and negativity to only find out that it makes me a contradiction
- i got frustrated and angry at the world around me because everyone around me was doing incorrect so i thought attack them meanwhile i was apart of the problem which made me a contradiction within
- i soon learnt that i can only change myself to change my world
- i began clear my reality and sacrificed myself for change
- i learnt the lessons and began to be the change which i wished to see in the world
THE WORK HAS BEGUN
Good evening fellow designers out there, my name is Sheldon Lind a fellow human like you who has experienced life just like you. Wake up and work ,whether it be on myself or for another. Now I have been given a task this week to research who am I and where do i come from?
EASY PEASY…RIGHT?
Ok now take that idea of who you are and where you come from then make a yarn which resemble you and your origin.. Conceptually, Symbolically or Philosophically.. EASY PEASY…RIGHT?
Now take that yarn and produce a raglan knitted garment which relates to you Conceptually, Symbolically or Philosophically for your life in terms of who are you and where do you come from……EASY PEASY…RIGHT?
Ok then do it i had 4 weeks and this is what i have done…
things to take into account:
- form construction [garment]
- fabric construction/knitting/crochet/weaving
- writing of one’s story
- self portraiture: surface design/garment as a portrait
- spinning yarns: making your own yarn/story
